HOW WE SUPPORT OPEN SOURCE...
First, we use open source tools and systems as far as possible. For instance, we built our own backup server using FreeBSD with SATA hard-disks configured as RAID 1. Our server uses scripts based upon rsync to backup our data.
The layout and graphics are mostly done with open toolsets: LaTeX for layout, GIMP for graphics, and Inkscape for vector graphics and drawings are just some of the tools that we use routinely.
Another way we support the Open Source movement is that we use the GNU Free Documentation License for most of the books that we publish. This means that you are free to reuse our work, as long as you attribute it to us, as follows:
Permission is granted to copy,
distribute and/or modify this document
under the terms of the GNU Free Documentation
License, Version 1.2
or any later version published by the Free Software
Foundation; with no Invariant Sections, one
FrontCover and one BackCover Text as follows:
“This book is produced under the copyleft GNU
Free Documentation License;
Original copies of this book may be purchased from
Nayika (www.nayika.com).”
Any derivation or copy of this
work must attribute this publication by way
of the above acknowledgment under the terms of this
license.
The entire text of the License is provided here: GNU Free Documentation License
Additionally, we are sponsors of an open source project, Unix name eStore1, that is hosted on Sourceforge.
